The Mummy of Masaharta
I would like to thank Jan Bennell of the Birkbeck College,
University of London, who recently sent me
these excellent close-up images of the mummy of Masaharta. Ms Bennell is a
student of Egyptology
doing research on the collection of the Mummification Museum in Luxor for
her final dissertation, and
received permission from the authorities there to photograph the mummy.
This photo clearly shows the reddish coloration of the mummy's face as well as
the black make up applied
to Masaharta's eye brows and eye lids. (Photo credit: Jan
Bennell, with the permission of the Mummification
Museum, Luxor.)
Masaharta's mummy in his colorfully painted coffin. (Photo credit:

The photograph below (taken by an unnamed Al Ahram
photographer) shows the Osiris
shroud that covers Masaharta's mummy.
